xiv UK Focus - Gas Detection New User-friendly Gas Analyser Unveiled at AD & Biogas 2014
Power management company Eaton (UK) were proud to showcase their next generation gas analyser dedicated to the anaerobic digestion and biogas market at the AD & Biogas Show 2014. Visitors to the stand (C031, Hall 3) from Eaton’s Crouse-Hinds business were the fi rst to see the company’s innovative MTL gas analyser, which is the fi rst truly modular solution and is expected to bring signifi cant cost savings to gas measurement. In addition, visitors met experts from MTL to learn more about hazardous area electrical equipment and how it is used to help meet ATEX safety certifi cation requirements on a Biogas plant.
“The anaerobic digestion and biogas industry has been demanding a more user-friendly solution in the market, and our modular gas analyser is specifi cally designed to meet and exceed that need,” says Iain Gordon, Gas Analysis Product Line Manager at Eaton’s Crouse-Hinds Division. “With more than 30 years of experience in gas analysis, our team has developed a simple-to-use, high performance, fi t-and-forget solution, which enables process managers and engineers to increase uptime and reduce operational costs.”
MTL GIR6000 is Eaton’s fi rst gas analyser dedicated to the biogas market and uses sensor technology initially developed to provide continuous and reliable online gas measurement in the oil and gas industries. The company is now extending its hazardous area knowledge and experience built on protecting equipment in the oil and gas industries to the biogas markets.
An MTL expert was also be on hand to answer queries on hazardous area safety around the Biogas plant, enhancing safety and ensuring that plants meet the standards required for measurement and control in hazardous areas.

Regular calibration of gas analysis and detection equipment is recommended in order to verify that the gas sensors are responding correctly and to improve measurement accuracy, consistency and reliability. With the addition of two new automated calibration stations, Cambridge Sensotec are now able to offer a fully comprehensive and professional calibration service for a wide range of gas analysis and detection equipment. This service is not only available for the company’s Rapidox range of gas analysers, but also for many other brands.
Cambridge Sensotec have recently designed and installed two fully automated calibration stations for the calibration gas analysis instruments. Three levels of gas are used to set a low, medium and high point of gas calibration within the process to ensure the highest levels of accuracy. Constructed using stainless steel, leak proof components and precision gauges, the calibration stations are able to maintain consistent measurements. The advantages of automation are time effi ciency and the repeatability of a set calibration routine.
In addition to scientifi c and process gas analysis equipment, a calibration service is available on a wide range of portable personal gas detection equipment. Specialist docking stations including Industrial Scientifi c DS2 and the BW Technologies Microdock II provide accurate bump testing and certifi ed calibrations. Other brands of personal gas detection devices can also be calibrated.
Cambridge Sensotec are able to offer customers a comprehensive fi xed gas detection installation and commissioning, service. This service includes consultation, supply, maintenance and calibration schedules designed specifi cally around the customers’ applications and environments.
For customers who require onsite gas equipment calibrations, Cambridge Sensotec can supply calibration gas kits which include lightweight disposable gas canisters with independent calibration certifi cates and gas regulators, all housed within a robust carry case.
Calibration canisters are available specifi cally for the calibration/bump testing of single and multi-gas analysers, sensors or devices. These include a wide range of disposable, lightweight, compact and non- refi llable calibration cylinders containing reactive or non-reactive gases. The 112 litre capacity cylinders can provide approximately 220 minutes of gas fl ow (when using a 0.5 litre per hour fi xed fl ow regular with pumped gas equipment). A comprehensive range of accessories are also available.
