Highly Accurate Differential Pressure Transmitter with Double Sensor
Keller AG für Druckmesstechnik (Switzerland) is launching the Series PRD-33 X. This impressive differential pressure transmitter features a double sensor for measuring the differential and line pressure independently, highly accurate measurements and a high overload resistance. Combining these benefi ts opens up new possibilities such as measuring the levels in liquefi ed gas tanks safely, accurately and at a reasonable price.
The PRD-33 X has two independent sensors and measures the line pressure as well as the differential pressure. The
transmitter achieves its particularly high accuracy level of up to ±0.05% FS due to its calibration over the entire pressure and temperature range. The mathematical model calculated in this way corrects all repeatable errors. The high level of accuracy is therefore guaranteed as an error band within the overall compensated range. The fl oating assembly of the sensor unit provides the ideal protection from external forces during installation.
Application example: measuring the level in pressure tanks. Pressure tanks impose particular requirements on pressure transmitters. The closed systems require two measurements to determine the level: one for the tank pressure and one for the liquid pressure. Thanks to its two sensors, the PRD-33 X achieves this in one measurement process. All transmitter parts that come into contact with the medium are made from high- quality materials such as stainless steel AISI 316L, silicone, gold and silicon. The PRD-33 X is therefore perfectly suitable for use with (liquid) oxygen, argon, nitrogen, helium and carbon dioxide.
Very high overload resistance, even in the smallest pressure ranges: The requirements become even more extensive with cryogenic liquefi ed gases. Tanks that are smaller than three metres can have a differential pressure range of only 200 mbar – with a line pressure of up to 32 bar. With its line pressure compensation of 0…40 bar, the PRD-33 X can tackle this challenging combination with ease. When the tank is being fi lled or the valve is being used, the entire tank pressure can hit one side of the differential pressure transmitter. The PRD-33 X also copes brilliantly with the resulting 32 bar uneven overloading with its overload resistance of ±35 bar.
Simple confi guration with free Keller software: The PRD-33 X can be supplied with various electrical connections and has a digital RS485 interface. In addition to the process values of both pressure sensors, this provides further information such as pressure ranges, fi lter settings and the serial number. The software supplied with the PRD-33 X enables the transmitter to be confi gured and controlled and data to be saved easily. Using it in combination with a Keller remote data transmission module or indicator further extends its range of functions and possible applications.

Unique technology now makes it possible for consultants and researchers to make leaf area index (LAI) measurements in all uniform sky conditions, greatly increasing effi ciency and providing more accurate information on short and tall canopies. LI-COR Biosciences (USA), manufacturer of instrument systems for environmental research, announces the LAI-2200C Plant Canopy Analyser, a non- destructive way to easily and accurately measure leaf area index.
Previous technology in the fi eld permitted leaf area index measurement only at specifi c sun angles or under cloud cover. “The new system implements light-scattering correction software that dramatically increases the instrument’s application in all types of uniform sky conditions, making it more convenient to use,” says Rod Madsen, LI-COR product manager.
“Leaf area index is one key driver of crop productivity. Leaf area index is directly related to many of the factors that farmers view as production reducers, such as lack of moisture, too much moisture, soil nutrients, hail damage, and pests. Understanding LAI can help reveal fi elds or portions of fi elds that may be under-producing,” says Madsen. “The LAI-2200C overcomes many of the traditional problems associated with measuring LAI, allowing easier and more accurate measurements in daylight situations.”
The LAI-2200C employs the gap fraction technique - a powerful and practical tool available for indirect sensing of plant canopy structure. While other types of LAI measurements, such as ceptometry, may be less effective, or inaccurate for row crops and non-uniform canopies, the LAI-2200C provides the ability to restrict the fi eld of view (both azimuth and zenith), making it ideal for certain agricultural situations.
The LAI-2200C Plant Canopy Analyzer also works well for a wide variety of other canopy types, including: grasslands, forests, hedges, small plots, and isolated trees. Designed by scientists and engineers to provide quick and accurate results, as well as advanced processing options, applications include studies of canopy growth, canopy productivity, forest vigor, canopy fuel load, air pollution deposition modeling, insect defoliation, remote sensing, and the global carbon cycle.

Remote Data Logger Features Onboard SIM Card And GSM Module
Labcell (UK) has introduced the Em50G remote data logger that logs and transmits data collected from a range of different sensors for monitoring soil conditions. With its internal batteries and onboard SIM and GSM module, the Em50G is a very cost-effective way to monitor soil moisture, temperature and other environmental
conditions without having to make site visits. It can also help to save water through better management of irrigation.
Simple and quick to set up - in around 20 minutes from opening the box - the Em50G collects data at user-defi ned intervals from up to fi ve sensors, stores up to 36,000 data scans on 1MB of non-volatile Flash memory, then transmits the data to a secure server four times per day. This password-protected data can be accessed via the internet or via Decagon’s DataTrac software package. Customers need not get involved with contracts with mobile phone service providers, as Decagon Devices handles this and simply provides customers with an annual Data Plan.
The Em50G is confi gured by plugging a laptop or handheld computer into the communications port, whereupon the ECH2O Utility software (included) enables users to set the logger clock, select the sensor types and specify the frequency with which the sensor data is to be logged.
Compatible sensors enable measurements to be made of soil moisture, soil temperature, soil electrical conductivity, leaf wetness, air temperature, air relative humidity, rainfall, wind speed and direction.
The Em50G remote data logger benefi ts from a tough, IP55 weatherproof enclosure with a hinged door and eyelet for securing with a user-supplied padlock. The logger is powered by fi ve AA batteries eliminating the need for an external power supply.
Labcell is the sole UK distributor for the Em50G remote data logger, which is manufactured in the USA by Decagon Devices.
