For periodic sample gas monitoring, stack testing, etc. over a short time period operators and test laboratories require lightweight and easy to handle equipment that is designed to meet a whole range of process parameters and regulatory needs. The portable heated gas sampling probe JPES is the primary filtration device for the overall analysis system. The design and location of the internal heaters ensure that the probe has absolutely no cold spots where condensation can form, additionally the clever design of the supplied heated hose means that the temperature controller, thermocouple cable and voltage supply cables are all integrated into the device. This means that the operator has only ONE connection to make to the site power supply.


The JPES portable probe, heated hose and accessories are supplied in a lightweight and compact carry case. The heated hose is highly flexible and also equipped with an integrated preset temperature controller.

For grid measurements according to authority standards the portable heated sampling pipe JBER can be added seamless to the portable probe JPES. No tools or other equipment is needed for assembly. No additional power supply is needed because the JBER is plugged in between heated hose and probe. The matching positioning flange ensures accurate measurements, easy handling and exact positioning of the sampling pipe.


The last essential element of the complete set is the portable gas conditioner JCP. The modular design of this lightweight and compact sample dryer unit offers space for an integrated sample pump, fine dust filter and flow meter.


The complete set up takes less than 15 minutes to be ready for operation.

risks. Yet a million and a half wells have been fracked in the US since 1947 and 95 per cent of all wells in the US are fracked today. It is a very safe method of exploration and production. Fracking occurs at several thousand feet below freshwater aquifers. It is virtually impossible for any of the fracking fluid to climb back up through the rock formations between the shale gas deposits and the aquifer.


“As with any energy source,” added Chris Faulkner, “there are risks. But if there is proper regulation and enforcement, those risks can be managed and minimised. In many states in the US, and in the UK, there are effective regulations and monitoring in place.”


Chris Faulkner was invited to present at the Council of Europe by David Davies MP. The ‘fringe’ meeting was attended by over 30 Council of Europe members from across Europe, including eight UK MPs.


“The UK is the only country in Europe which is progressing with shale exploration,” added Chris Faulkner. “The rest of Europe is watching the UK very closely to see what happens.


“The UK government is making every effort to get this right, albeit without much help from the shale industry which has spectacularly failed to properly engage with governments and, more importantly, with the public at large.


“The handful of companies operating in the field have not made any real effort to engage with local communities around sites, enter into proper discussions with local councils, or discussed fracking with environmentalists, allowing them free range to influence public perceptions using inaccurate, misinterpreted or exaggerated information mainly from the US experience.


“The industry has also failed to come forward with any suggestions for compensating landowners and local communities, seemingly leaving it to government to regulate.

New Sample Gas Pumps for Flammable Gases


Bühler Technologies (Germany), has extended application range of its sample gas pumps for flammable gases.


The new P1.2 and 1.2 E Series are suitable for flammable gases in equipment group II, equipment category 3G, gas group IIB and temperature class T4 and ready for delivery. The extension enables a large group of gases with flammable components and solvents, for examples methane in biogas or processes containing ethanol. The Atex code is II 3G/- c IIB T4.


The new pumps are based on the approved Bühler technology with PTFE bellow and easy-to- replace valves. These features qualify operations for extreme applications containing corrosive sample gases.
