Warning System Boosts Flood Intelligence for 15 Communities
Casella (UK) has supplied a warning system to Northamptonshire County Council, in the UK, for 15 communities in the County. STORM Guardian is a robust rain gauge, featuring a Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge (TBRG) mechanism made from entirely non-corrosive materials. The gauge can collect rainfall data remotely and mitigate the risk from the increasing incidence of high intensity rainfall and fl ash fl ooding.
“We are very excited about the service that the STORM Guardian will bring to us as a Lead Local Flood Authority and for our Northamptonshire community pathfi nder project developing fl ood resilience amongst residents and businesses at risk,” said Ruth Rolls, Flood and Water Project Manager, Northamptonshire County Council. “We
are pleased with its performance and particularly happy with the support we’ve received from Casella in the important initial stages of getting the product established.”
STORM Guardian was chosen because of Casella’s experience in producing rain gauges but also because the data logger and all the main components are housed together, making for easy installation.
The fi rst STORM Guardian is located at Yelvertoft Primary School, a community that is at risk of surface water and river fl ooding and one of the 15 communities that will be invited to work with Northamptonshire County Council on this project. “We’ll take forward the learning from this project and encourage more communities to set up their own localised fl ood warning system, inspired by our success with STORM Guardian,” Ruth Rolls added.

Instrument Connection Package launched for Popular Weather Monitoring Systems
Gill Instruments (UK), a designer and manufacturer of meteorological technology, is launching the MetConnect promotion to celebrate the benefi ts of combining its MetPak Pro and MetStream products.
MetConnect is the combination of MetPak Pro and MetStream into one package which provides the ability to link, bridge, store and stream data between devices.
MetPak Pro is a professional compact weather station which includes four interface ports for connecting additional
third-party sensors. It can be used for any weather
monitoring application on land or sea. MetPak Pro comes with approvals including IEC-60945 for marine environments and has communications protocols including MODBUS.
It provides exceptional quality data and reliability suitable for professional reference quality measurements on 6 weather parameters (temperature, humidity, pressure, dew point, wind direction and wind speed). It allows users to connect and supply power to other sensors through a digital rain gauge input, sensitive PRT, analogue inputs.
Air Pollution Monitoring
MetStream is an intelligent communications hub which seamlessly connects to MetPak Pro. It connects data from sensors to the internet or any network with its Ethernet port or built in Wi-Fi. Launched earlier this year, MetStream is one of the fi rst meteorological devices capable of sampling data from multiple customised sensors without the need for user programming. It streams data directly to any browser via its built-in webserver, has low power consumption (2W) and a high sampling rate (up to 100Hz).

The units can be built with singular parameters or as an all in one unit. All the data is uploaded electronically by data logger to a dedicated webpage which has secure user logon and passwords.
