Compact Balances

The durable and compact Core balances come in seven models and are designed for easy storage, making them perfect for the classroom setting. The battery and AC power supply also make them portable and useful for fieldwork. The Core is extremely affordable and comes with a large backlit digital display, colour-coded keypad and a removable stainless steel pan.
Other useful features include full-range tare and dual tare keys, zero tracking, simple four-button operation and external calibration.
The Core offers overload protection in case of accidental overloading. The removable draft shield, available on most units, provides added stability and improves accuracy. The Core also has a security feature - a slot that allows the use of a standard Kensington™-type lock and cable to prevent theft.
Following the recent opening of Bibby Scientific’s new sales office for Asia, the company’s main dealer in Singapore, Advantech, hosted a two-day seminar presenting Jenway®
, Stuart® and Techne® Circle no. 439 products.
The first day of the Bibby Scientific event was attended by 19 different dealers covering the Asia region, who were briefed on a wide range of Stuart benchtop science equipment, Jenway analytical instrumentation and Techne products for life science and industrial applications.
Day two of the seminar was designed for end users and focused on the Techne TC-PLUS range. Forty attendees learned about the innovative technology incorporated into these versatile thermal cyclers which saves both energy and time – particularly valuable in fast and high-throughput PCR in research, diagnostics, forensic and testing laboratories. According to Andy Mooney, Bibby Scientific Sales Director: “This highly successful event in Singapore underlined our commitment to the Asian market. Dealers and customers enjoyed the opportunity to see how our internationally renowned products deliver exceptional performance in the laboratory.”

Improving Accelerated Solvent Extraction (ASE®
) Workflow
Genevac has launched the Flip-Flop™ system to improve post Accelerated Solvent Extraction (ASE®
preparation of samples. Using the special double-ended Flip- Flop™ tube - samples can be collected directly from a Dionex ASE®
system.
A SampleGenie™ adaptor with GC vial is then fitted. The tube is flipped over and placed into the Puck sample holder in a Genevac Rocket Evaporator and the cap removed. The samples are then concentrated directly into a GC
autosampler vial. The Genevac Rocket Evaporator enables rapid concentration or evaporation of up to 18 Dionex ASE®
vials One Billion Valves Shipped
Fluidigm has announced that its Singapore factory has now manufactured and shipped more than 1 billion microscopic NanoFlex™ valves. Each NanoFlex valve is so small that it takes 10 to span the width of a human hair. The billion valves built into Fluidigm’s integrated fluidic circuits (IFCs) are equivalent to the number of valves required for all the conventional plumbing for every home in California, Texas and New York (the three most populous states in the United States of America). Fluidigm’s NanoFlex valves stop or release the flow of liquids containing genetic samples and reagents in microfluidic chips used in life science research. These valves provide precise control over complex fluid-handling steps without losing reliability. Scientists use IFC technology embedded with thousands of these NanoFlex valves to explore everything from single cell genomics to the traits of tomatoes being grown for the local grocery store shelf. “No other microfluidic supplier can provide the precision and control we deliver every day with our NanoFlex valves. It is one of our key inventions that differentiate Fluidigm’s integrated fluidic circuits from other microfluidic options. Online Resource for Food & Beverage Sample Reparation
Genevac has announced a new web page (
www.genevac.com/food) that brings together the latest technological innovations, applications advances and references for evaporation and sample concentration techniques relating to food and beverage analysis. Quality and safety testing of food and beverages is an area of growing importance, be that for exporters, importers or government bodies, accurate analytical results are critical. In common with many other applications, careful sample preparation is critical, especially when the analyte of interest is volatile. Genevac evaporator systems find application in a wide array of food and beverage applications from testing constituents of beverages and gluten levels in Whisky, to pesticide analysis of fruit and vegetables as well as determining vitamin levels in cereals. In nutritional studies, the HCl resistant version of the EZ-2 Evaporator has established itself as a system of choice for protein analysis. Protein digests often require digestion with 6N HCl which is highly corrosive to traditional evaporation systems, however HCl resistant Genevac systems are designed to withstand daily use of
concentrated HCl.
