Spotlight Pumps, Valves & Liquid Handling New 96-Channel Handheld Electronic Pipette

The Integra VIAFLO 96 is a new 96-channel electronic pipette that enables fast, precise and easy simultaneous transfer of 96 samples. The VIAFLO 96 has been designed to be used just like a standard handheld pipette. Therefore, no special skills or training are required to operate it. The VIAFLO 96 features the company’s popular Touch Wheel™ pipette user interface enabling simple and fast programming of a wide range of pipetting modes including repeat dispense, serial dilute and sample dilute.

Customers will immediately benefit from the increased productivity delivered by their VIAFLO 96. Fast replication or reformatting of 96 and 384 well plates and high precision transferring of reagents, compounds and solutions to or from microplates is now as easy as pipetting with a standard electronic pipette into a single tube.

Four pipetting heads with pipetting volumes up to 12.5µl, 125µl, 300 µl or 1250µl are available for the VIAFLO 96. These pipetting heads are interchangeable within seconds enabling optimal matching of the available volume range to the application performed.

The VIAFLO 96 uses VIAFLO GripTips, which provide a perfect seal every time and won't fall off during use. These tips can also be used for other VIAFLO electronic pipettes. The unique combination of features provided by the VIAFLO 96 will not only increase your productivity but also facilitate accurate delivery of liquids to target vessels, reduce cross contamination, lower operating fatigue and provide consistent results.

Commercial Heat-Pump Dryers That Deliver Up to 60% Energy Savings

Power-hungry commercial tumble dryers could soon be a thing of the past as German appliance maker, Miele, has recently announced the launch of their commercial grade heat-pump dryers.

The heat-pump technology can reduce electricity consumption by up to 60% when compared with a conventional condenser dryer.

This energy saving technology features a closed circuit: hot, moisture-laden air from the dryer is passed through a heat pump where is it cooled and dehumidified through condensation in a heat exchanger. The air then proceeds through a second heat exchanger, where it is re-heated before it is passed through the drum. The closed air circuit obviates the need for vent ducting, which can reduce the expense of installation.

Cooling and dehumidifying air releases energy that is captured and used to pre-heat cold, dry air. This approach retains the latent heat within the process, unlike vented and traditional condenser dryers. The temperature of the process air can be kept at very low levels thanks to thorough dehumidification.

Les Marshall, Commercial Director at Miele, said: “We are extremely proud to announce the launch of our heat-pump dryers. Miele is committed to the development of energy saving technologies, and the heat-pump dryers are a step forward for our product range, delivering both cost and energy savings.” The PT 8257 WP with a drum volume of 250 l has a load capacity of between 10 and 13 kg of laundry; the PT 8337 WP – at 325 l – is able to cope with 13 to 16 kg. Both models excel in terms of short cycle times: 10 kg of laundry drying times down to only 44 minutes (reduction in residual moisture level from 50% to 0%).

Some liquid handling applications require more than just simple pumping. The new DOSE IT ‘CUSTOMISE’ software mode allows users to create their own personalised liquid handling protocols.

Up to 20 consecutive dispensing and aspirating steps can be defined. A wide range of settable parameters, such as volume, flow rate and repetitions, can be assigned to each step. In addition, the flow rate can be set to ramp up or down to the target speed, thus avoiding foaming, splashing or unwanted turbulences during dispensing.

Applications that have benefited from the new DOSE IT customise mode include gentle filling of density gradient tubes by slowly increasing the flow rate, coating Petri dishes by adding and removing coating solution and preparing serial dilutions by having an air gap between sample and the diluent, to mention but a few. Simple to set-up and implement the scope for optimised liquid handling protocols using the new DOSE IT is almost limitless

DOSE IT is an intuitive programmable peristaltic pump that simplifies the dispensing of cell culture media, buffers and other solutions for volumes ranging from 0.1mL to 2500mL.

Serological Pipettes

Manufactured from optically clear polystyrene in an ISO9001:2000 factory, the LabCo range of serological pipettes will not only meet, but exceed users expectations.

Sterilised by gamma irradiation and certified non-pyrogenic, users can select from two packaging options: either individually wrapped or wrapped in bags of 25.

Unique colour coding for each pipette capacity and crisp black graduations provides efficient selection and ease of reading to speed up your daily routine.

Available from 1ml to 50ml, the LabCo range offers customers all that they could possibly ask for.

LabCo is currently seeking distributors worldwide. Circle no. 398

DOSE It features a very small footprint and weighs only 3.5Kg making it a perfect device for bench-top or in- hood dispensing applications. Programming the DOSE IT is fast and easy through a multilingual user interface (English, Spanish, German, French and Italian). The instrument's pump head accommodates the use of different tubing diameters (1-8mm) allowing a wide range of volumes to be dispensed with optimal speed and precision. A built-in print capability supports the capture of program details for record keeping and quality control. Many accessories are available to support a variety of dispensing applications.
