the VA, we identified a significant and substantial increase in mortality attributable to HAIs due to 4 different antibiotic- resistant organisms of 4.9% for MDR gram-negative bacteria and 5.9% for MRSA. Important future work will include evaluating interventions to prevent resistant HAIs to deter- mine their effect on mortality.
