Te “yearning for learning” was high on the agenda for IMEX Frankfurt in May before it fell victim to coronavirus and was cancelled as EventsBase went to press. Te two-day event – where the

Carina Bauer, chief executive of

the IMEX Group, explained: “As part of our mission to deliver value and experience ‘beyond a trade- show’ we’re increasingly focused on ensuring we meet the profes- sional development needs of both buyers and exhibitors in creative and meaningful ways. December may seem a long way ahead but IBTM World in Barcelona will be here before we know it. Te organisers of the annual three-day event have one goal – “to inspire the events world to deliver excep- tional experiences”. For 32 years, IBTM World has

74,000 pre-scheduled business meetings take place and visi- tor numbers were up 3 per cent compared with 2018. More than 2,600 exhibitors from 150 coun- tries attended and more than 2,700 hosted buyers represented 77 coun- tries, Tere were delegates from international businesses including Google, Adobe, ICBC Bank, La Caja Seguras, BBVA France, Dell, Whirl- pool and BMW. Among last year’s new features,

the Elite Corporate Programme was very well received and acted as a valuable opportunity for senior event planners to share ideas and connect with their peers. Meanwhile, the new IBTM

Accelerate zone, designed to attract and nurture entrepreneurial talent, gave delegates the opportunity to learn from other successful MICE entrepreneurs and share ideas with their peers. Te zone also hosted the culmi-

nation of IBTM’s event incubator, Event Business Accelerator (EBA), which saw nine finalists participate

in two days of live pitching. Nanna Ulsøe and Jane Houlind Ulsøe, founders of Canvas Planner – an online task and collaboration tool based in Denmark – were crowned overall winners, taking home a cheque for 5,000 euros. Exhibition director, David

Tompson, said: “Tis year we delivered a total of nine new fea- tures at the event – including the Elite Corporate Programme, our IBTM Accelerate Zone and IBTM’s inaugural Global Planning and Policy Forum – all of which were very well received. “One of my personal highlights

was seeing and feeling the buzz at our new Accelerate zone. Most of the education sessions in the zone were standing room only and it was a truly inspiring experi- ence to spend time with and learn from the finalists in our mentoring programme, EBA. Our team was worked incredibly hard to create another hugely successful event and we’re extremely happy with the results.” n
