ambassador programme in collabo- ration with academics and industry professionals from across Dundee, Angus, Fife and Perthshire. By sup- porting and fostering international discussion and exchange of knowl- edge, we’re enabling and empower- ing academics to bring association conferences and events to the region to benefit from the world-leading research being carried out. “Every day, new developments

of the city’s spaces and there was a civic reception at the McManus Gal- lery and conference dinner at the Apex City Quay Hotel. Te area has always had a strong

creative sector and the opening of the V&A Dundee has underlined that. Te design museum saw its millionth visitor within 500 days of it opening and in its first 12 months, its visitors contributed £21m to the Dundee economy. “Of course, we’ve seen huge

interaction with creative practitio- ners since V&A Dundee opened in

September 2018. With the museum having welcomed its one millionth visitor last year, its reach into the realms of art and design have been felt across the region, including at events like the recent Architectural Humanities Research Association International Conference.” Te British Association for Vic-

torian Studies 2019 Conference in August was a collaboration between the University of Dundee and the Scottish Centre for Victorian and Neo- Victorian Studies. Tere were 270 academics from 14 different countries

for the event which wove Dundee’s own Victorian heritage into the three-day syllabus. It made use of the Verdant Works, McManus Art Gallery and Museum and the City Chambers, alongside university spaces. It is no accident that these con-

ferences choose Dundee and the bureau is an active partner in the process. Last year, it launched the Pathfinders Programme which sup- ports individuals and organisations considering bidding for, and hosting, national or international meetings. Karen says: “It is a new breed of

are made across a wide range of industry sectors – from those often associated with the area, like life sciences, surgery and computer games, to other key sectors like engineering, energy and space technologies. “By providing the tools and
