Dragonboat race moves to new venue
Blood cancer charity Cure Leukaemia will host its annual Dragonboat Race at a new venue, on Pendigo Lake at the NEC complex. Cure Leukaemia has agreed a
three-year deal with the venue to link up for the new event, taking place on 5 September to kick off the charity’s programme of activities for Blood Cancer Awareness Month. The ‘Mission Possible’ for participants is to swap their normal attire and suits for fancy dress, before hitting the water in 20ft traditional Chinese longboats to demonstrate their paddling power, while trying not to fall in. The campaign, launched last
summer, encourages people to take on fundraising challenges with the aim of helping find a cure for all forms of blood cancer to put Cure Leukaemia out of business.

Land Rover
lets 007 live and let drive
A TV commercial demonstrates the new Land Rover Defender’s license to thrill – ahead of the car’s appearance in the forthcoming James Bond movie. The commercial, due to air in the UK from 20
March, features an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at what to expect from the new Defender in the 007 film ‘No Time To Die’. The rehearsal footage featured in the advert shows
the vehicle launching into the air and being put to further extreme tests while driven at high speed through swamps and rivers. The chase sequence in ‘No Time To Die’ was led by
stunt coordinator Lee Morrison, working alongside Oscar winner and special effects, action vehicles
supervisor Chris Corbould. Lee Morrison said: “We pushed the Defender
further than we believed possible to generate the maximum excitement, and to give fans an insight into the uncompromising challenge of producing an incredible chase sequence which you can look forward to seeing in ‘No Time To Die’.” Nick Collins, Land Rover Defender vehicle line
director, said: “Physical strength and durability is measured by a number of different tests including a bridge jump test which gave us confidence to deliver what the stunt team needed to create for ‘No Time To Die’, with no modifications to the body structure except the installation of a roll cage.”
