Build-to-rent scheme launched
A build-to-rent property specialist has launched a new development at 100 Suffolk Street in Birmingham city centre. The development – Aston
Place – is made up of studio and one and two-bedroom flats, and has been built by Salford-based property firm Dandara Living. Dandara said the flats are
aimed at city centre employers who are looking for accommodation for visiting personnel or staff relocating to Birmingham. Dandara director Paul
Borrmann said: “Drawing on more than 20 years’ experience in the UK residential lettings market, every detail has been considered to offer rental experience that is second–to– none. “Residents at Aston Place also have access to a range of
on-site amenities including a resident’s lounge and gym, 24/7 customer service team,
free ultra-fast broadband – and pets are also welcome.”

Canal development plans approved by city council
Plans to build more than 750 new homes on a derelict canalside site have been given the green light by Birmingham City Council. The development, on an 11.7 acre
site at Soho Loop, has been put forward by joint venture partners Galliard Homes and Apsley House Capital. The site is on Dudley Road,
opposite Birmingham City Hospital, and is bordered by Spring Hill and Western Road. It will form a £165m urban
regeneration scheme, which will include 102 two and three-bedroom townhouses and 650 one and two- bedroom apartments, more than 10,000 sq ft of commercial space, new public realm, parks and gardens, and shared amenity spaces. New pedestrian, cycle and
vehicle routes will also be created to enable public access through the site, with a new canal bridge connecting the area with the existing towpath to provide a direct route into the city centre. The scheme – named Soho
Wharf – has been designed by Claridge Architects, which worked
Green light: an artist’s impression of how Soho Loop will look
with the joint venture partnership on its Timber Yard development in Southside. Galliard executive chairman
Stephen Conway said: “Our vision for Soho Wharf is to deliver a residential-led, mixed-use scheme that will be truly transformative for Birmingham. The approved scheme forms part of the ‘Greater Icknield
Masterplan’, the largest brownfield housing-led redevelopment framework within Birmingham and is therefore strategically important for the long-term regeneration of the area. “Soho Wharf is the next big
development opportunity and with planning now in place we’re excited to be bringing the project forward.”

A Jewellery Quarter-based property developer is hoping to get planning permission for a new residential development on Great Hampton Street. If it goes ahead, The Lamp
Works will be the next phase in Blackswan Property’s plans to regenerate the area in and around Great Hampton Street. The Blackswan team is also
responsible for The Gothic and Gilders Yard, two other projects that have helped the renaissance of the Great Hampton Street area. The latest scheme has been designed by Jewellery Quarter- based architects BPN and will include 129 apartments and 10,000 sq ft of commercial space. The Lamp Works will feature
courtyards, traditional shop fronts and public amenity spaces, and will also retain and refurbish the buildings frontage. Richard Whitehouse,
development director at Blackswan Property, said: “We’re delighted to bring The Lamp Works before the committee as it represents the immense collaborative effort between ourselves, the planners and the whole of the design team. “We consider the Lamp Works to
be the next piece in the ‘jigsaw’ for the transformation of Great Hampton Street, which fits with our mission at Blackswan to create unique buildings and destinations in and around Birmingham, with a strong focus on regeneration and heritage sites.”
