Change consultancy step up Stateside activities
By Dan Harrison
An award-winning business change consultancy is linking up with the Transatlantic Chamber to aid its mission of “empowering the potential of businesses” on both sides of the Atlantic. Curium Solutions has been a patron of Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce for just over two years and won the Greater Birmingham Business of the Year award in 2018. The firm also has an office in Florida and is
now operating across multiple US states, working alongside big-name companies including snack and beverage giants PepsiCo and a number of federal government agencies.

A touch of glass: The stunning window that has been shipped to Canada
From Royal Town to
the Canadian Rockies A stained glass window created in Sutton Coldfield is on its way to a new home in the Canadian province of Alberta – thanks to a Chamber member. Embassy Freight Services has been tasked
with transporting the five-metre high stained glass window by air to Our Lady of the Rockies Catholic Church in Canmore, Alberta. The window, which is made up of 23 sections,
was designed and created by Sutton Coldfield glass artist Steve Cowan. Keith Beresford, Embassy Freight Services (Midlands) Ltd, said: “It has been a privilege to ship this amazing stained glass window out to the church. “Whilst the plaudits go to the expert glass
artist in question - Steve Cowan from Four Oaks in Sutton Coldfield - it is something that Embassy is very pleased to have played a very small part in.” It is not the first time Embassy has been
involved in a major shipment across the Atlantic. In 2012, the Minworth-based company shipped
the Royal Shakespeare Company’s costumes to New York for a 12-week run of theatre shows.

says joining the Transatlantic Chamber was a natural step to connect with businesses who have a foothold in both the UK and North American markets. He said: “We have developed a very strong
and effective relationship with the Chamber and have decided to take this a step further. “In 2017 we set up Curium Solutions US, based
in Florida. The business has grown year on year and extended into multiple states, with the same core proposition. We have worked with some great

organisations, including PepsiCo, NASA, Robinhood, AstraZeneca and many Federal Government agencies like the CIA. “To help us improve the potential to work with
businesses who have an interest on both sides of the Atlantic we are delighted to be joining the Transatlantic Chamber. “We see a significant opportunity in the US to
empower the potential of the businesses and teams that we work with, and we are looking forward to meeting the other members and playing an active role.”
Shorter queues make users ‘appy’ By Philip Parkin
An IT company is aiming to help cut down on food and drink queues at venues – using a method that has been a huge hit with coffee drinkers in the US. Zapaygo, the Birmingham-based firm which
has joined the Transatlantic Chamber, has developed an app that allows users to order ahead at venues – and also pay – so all they have to do is pick up whatever they have ordered. Midland concert goers will be among the first
to benefit from this, as Zapaygo has joined forces with the NEC and its electronic point of sale (EPOS) partner Veteda. Veteda processes more than a million
transactions for the NEC’s venues each month. Zapaygo co-founder Elliott Hall says the pre-
order market has grown significantly, particularly Stateside at coffee houses such as Starbucks.
He said: “Zapaygo helps users and businesses
reduce the time wasted in lines, and in so doing, enhancing the service experience for everyone. “While Zapaygo has been in the making for a
few years, the pre-order market has matured, and the concept is proven. In the US, over 50 per cent of all Starbucks orders are via mobile. “Chains in the UK are launching their own
apps which is great news for Zapaygo, and they are educating the public, training staff and building systems to receive orders via apps, so once Zapaygo has its millions of users via its exclusive deals, no venue will refuse.” Zapaygo was founded by Mr Hall and Richard
Dilworth. It has been mainly funded by local investors, but has attracted some overseas investment as well. The company already has plans to expand into
Australia, where Verteda represents a host of venues.
