Business News Business News Latest news from Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce President backs Woodland House By Jessica Brookes
Greater Birmingham Chambers president Steve Allen has chosen Birmingham Women’s Hospital Charity’s Woodland House appeal as his charity of the year. The £3.5m Woodland House fundraising
appeal was launched last year to establish a bereavement centre at the hospital for families who have experienced baby loss. Every year, approximately 2,000 women and
families at the hospital are given bereavement news.
Designed following patient feedback
advocating the need for a standalone facility which is quiet and private, Woodland House will be the first of its kind in a hospital setting and will set a new national standard of care for bereaved families. Steve Allen, also head of Birmingham office
and partner at Mills and Reeve, said: “Having visited the hospital and having
spoken to the team I now have a much better understanding of why this project is so important and why Woodland House will set the new national standard of care and support for families. “It is also another example of innovation, the
theme of my Chamber presidency, and I’m really looking forward to backing this appeal in order to raise the funds needed in order to make Woodland House a reality.” Louise McCathie, director of fundraising for Birmingham Women's & Children's NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We were so pleased to welcome Steve to our hospital, so that he could see first-hand just what we’re trying to achieve with Woodland House, and why it is so desperately needed. “Our hope for Woodland House is that it will
not only benefit our bereaved parents and families. Instead, by taking the lead in creating a

important journey, and look forward to working with other chamber members in setting a new standard of care for bereaved families.” Funds will be raised for the appeal at the GBCC’s annual dinner and awards.
