Name: Dannie Ford

Company: Inspired Energy plc

Job Title: Partnership manager

What does your company do? We help businesses manage their utilities, offering a range of services, including procurement, energy efficiency programmes, bureau services and legislative compliance.

How did it all start? We were founded in 2000 – since then we’ve grown significantly, with no sign of slowing down. We now have 500 energy experts on hand to solve whatever energy challenge a business may face.

What keeps you awake at night? Nothing, I sleep pretty well. But it would have to be climate change and thinking about what more I could be doing to help.

If you could turn the clock back, what would you do differently? Nothing. A career in energy wasn’t the plan but I’m really happy with the way it’s turned out. I’m making an impact, changing the perspective on green energy and starting the conversation with businesses on sustainability.

What has surprised you most in your job? That many SMEs don’t think green energy is an option or they think it’s more expensive than it is. It’s more accessible than people think.

What advice would you give to someone starting out? If you don’t like your environment change it – be the change that you want to see happen.

What exciting projects is your business working on? With the conversation on net zero –

the UK’s commitment to becoming carbon neutral by 2050 – gaining momentum, our optimisation team is busy investigating new energy technologies to help our clients future proof their business. Plus, as the only utility which is

third party intermediary (TPI) mandated by the recently introduced Streamlined Energy Carbon Reporting (SECR) legislation, we’ve chosen to complete our SECR report 12 months earlier than required. You can find out how we’re

helping to reduce our own carbon footprint when the report is published at the end of March.

What made you join Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce and how are you making use of your membership? We joined because we wanted to increase our visibility in the region and keep up-to-date with the issues and trends within the local business community. Our membership has allowed us

to grow our business regionally – reaching potential clients through member exclusive advertising and through the Chamber’s events and networking opportunities. The Chamber has also helped us increase brand awareness through their marketing channels and events. We’ve been introduced to a

range of businesses that we wouldn’t necessarily have had access to before and many of these introductions have led to new business, which is a huge bonus.
