feeling that the Communities Choir event this year will top that experience!” All community choirs are
welcome to take part in the event and THSH encourages the participation of all choral music genres: classical, pop, rock, gospel, folk, reggae and barbershop. Each community choir chooses and practises repertoire pieces in their own social and community environments, and will take part in mass choir rehearsals, with the final performance taking place at Symphony Hall on Sunday, 21 June 2020.
‘We currently reach over 18,000 people with our learning and community programme and over the coming years we will be able to reach thousands more’
The positive effects of singing
are well known, reducing social isolation, nurturing confidence and self-worth and encouraging the development of additional transferable skills. By giving community choirs the platform to sing as one, Community Spirit is
championing the people in this region and gives performance opportunities to all. Nick Reed, THSH chief executive,
said: “We believe that music is essential to everyone and has the power to transform and change lives, to entertain and uplift, to create shared experiences and to educate. THSH will continue to offer creative opportunities to local people, and work with local community organisations and business to develop and strengthen our programmes for young people, their families and their communities.” THSH’s commitment to the
community is the driving force behind a major transformation of Symphony Hall’s public foyer areas. The state-of-the-art redevelopment will create a more welcoming experience for audiences and from autumn 2020, the new foyer spaces will host hundreds of free, diverse and exciting events, while our vital Learning and Participation programme will reach over 24,000 young people and adults every year.
Nick continued: “We currently
reach over 18,000 people with our learning and community programme and over the coming years we will be able to reach thousands more in the transformed spaces that this project will create.
As significant cuts are made to music tuition in our region’s schools, this transformation will support local talent by providing an enhanced space for people to be musically creative.”
