South West in Bloom judging W

arm sunshine greeted South West in Bloom

judges, Steve Clampin and Richard Beale in Kingsbridge on Friday 5th

July for a three hour assessment of the town. The tour started with a

press shoot with the bloom team and introduction by town crier Roger Pinder, followed by assessment at various locations throughout Kingsbridge, meeting many volunteers and supporting club members from other local groups and local school children along the way. Particular emphasis throughout was appropriate good planting for each location with the majority of planting being sustainable, taking into account the effects of climate change and more extreme weather conditions. The group were also able to show

floral displays, incorporating heritage features and a celebration of the wonderful wildlife of beautiful

Kingsbridge and other parts of South Devon. For several months the community of the town have

The judging is the first of two. On

August 1st a second will be carried out at

National level when two of the top RHS judges, namely Jon Wheatley and Roger Burnett will visit to assess the Town for the

Champion of Champions category which is the highest achievable level in the competition. The team are very proud of their achievement and

have every confidence that the town will look at it’s very best for the Summer and beyond for everyone to enjoy. In August, the RHS will be sending their own photo- graphic team to Kingsbridge so watch this space!
