Highlights The secret to natural-looking hair colour is to make any changes subtle. If you’re after a shade that simply enhances what you already have or returns your hair to its nat- ural original colour, it’s often best to stay within three shades of your natural hair colour. Natural, soft highlights should look ‘sun-kissed’ and add shine.

Balayage Balayage is still one of the most popular ‘ON TREND’ hair colour techniques of the decade. ‘Balay- age’ is a French word meaning ‘to sweep’ or ‘to paint’. It allows for a sun-kissed natural-looking hair colour, similar to what nature gives us as children. It creates a very soft regrowth and is, therefore, very low maintenance which is a real asset to most clients with today’s busy lifestyles.

Bold shades Colouring your hair can be a great way to express your individuality. If your hair’s natural colour is dark and you fancy a playful bright pink, you’ll need to lighten your hair first. As with all colour- ing, professional advice is essential! With so many vivid colours to choose from there are end- less possibilities.

Colour shine Some colour treatments thicken the hair strand. With this in mind, if you’re after a shade that maintains and improves your hair condition, then an all-over semi-permanent colour could be the product for you.

Aftercare To ensure that the colour you have lasts and stays vibrant and retains

shine without fading, then a salon professional colour shampoo and conditioner are essential; all good salons these days will advise on colour-safe products. The new GOLD- WELL COLOR REVIVE conditioners are my current favourite with a shade in the range for every hair tone. Used once a week after your salon visit, these will help keep your colour looking as good as it did the day you left the salon. To avoid heat and help protect your colour, maybe have 2 days a week where you give your hair the ‘day- off’ letting your hair dry naturally and not use any heated styler. Whatever your choice of hair colour, it can en- hance and complement your hair cut and style and give volume and body. Due to new techniques and softer, kinder products the colour world goes from strength to strength. Who knows what is round the corner…
