wonderful chorizo I have ever tasted’; a scotch egg ‘like nothing I have had before’, and plump, juicy gras in all its verdant splendour. The Crab in my Linguine held its own amidst chilli, charred corn and crispy brown butter onions, glorious seafood tang shining through dense bisque. Sweet Potato Fries encrusted with


Cumin Salt, Su’s choice with her main; equally enjoyable dipped in velvety Truffle Mayo or soft runny egg yolk, a perfect foil to buttery veal. Both driving, we chose wines by the glass from a fabulously varied wine list – Su’s Picpoul de Pinet, crys- tal clear, delicate and fresh on the palate with a soft nose and an excel- lent balance; my Fleurie (the most


‘feminine’ of Beaujolais) bursting with fruit flavour from its Gammay grape; best drunk young and ideally at 15°C, this was expertly served. With pastry chef Claire in the


brigade, how could we refuse puds? Key Lime Pie for Su and Raspberry Mille Feuille for me were savoured. ‘My mousse is set beautifully’, ‘the


meringue is gorgeous – crispy out- side, gooey middle’; my raspberries just tart against the Chantilly cream’ – amongst murmurs of appreciation. Over coffee, we reflected on the last six years since Salcombe Harbour Hotel emerged like a butterfly from a chrysalis. Under the direction of General Manager Jason, (now joined by a second Jason with equally exacting standards and similar ap- proach, as Restaurant Manager) both hotel and The Jetty have identified, established and settled into their own character and identity – one I like very much indeed and so, I believe, will you.
