TIME FOR TEA

KINGSBRIDGE DEMENTIA FRIENDLY COMMUNITY Supporting People living with Dementia and their Friends and Family

The Kingsbridge Dementia Friendly Community is a small charity that aims to support people with dementia, their family, friends and carers living in Kingsbridge and surrounding villages and everywhere in between. Our goal is to raise awareness of dementia and help people living

Dementia Friends – a social action initiative The Dementia Friends movement is a nationwide social action initiative co-ordinated by the Alzheimer’s Soci- ety. The aim is that people attend a Dementia Friends Information Session and learn a little bit about dementia and commit to taking an action big or small to help support people with dementia. Those people talk to their friends and family or colleagues about the session and what they have com- mitted to do and inspire those they talk to, similarly to attend a session and commit to their own action. As a result, we are creating a network of people who have a greater under- standing of dementia and who are committed to helping those living with dementia to live well and provide a little bit of support and understanding.

Book a session for your group or club We have two Dementia Friends Champions in our com- munity, Rebecca Weare and Beccy Bristow. They have been trained by the Alzheimer’s Society to present the Dementia Friends Information Session. The Informa- tion Session is a fun and interactive session that can be adapted for different age groups and they have presented the session to children’s groups such as Beavers, Cubs and Brownies to employees of local busi- nesses and members of local clubs such at the Kingsbridge Estuary Rotary Club. We are always looking for new

groups to visit to present the Dementia Friends Information

Session and now is an ideal time for anyone that leads a children’s group to get in touch to arrange a session in the autumn. The sessions are free of charge and take between 45

minutes and 1 hour. Provided we have enough notice, sessions can be arranged at any time of day and any day of the week.

Mosaics Over the last few months we have been creating four mosaic panels with the fabulous local artist Michele Farrand. The four mosaics have now been completed and we need your help to find locations around our community for them to be permanently displayed. One will shortly be appearing on the wall of the Age Concern Building (opposite the library). Please contact us with your suggestions.

Time for Tea? Our monthly drop in group is on the last Friday of each month in the Kingsbridge Age Concern building, when you are welcome to join us at “Time for Tea” to talk about dementia or simply enjoy a cup of tea.

If you would like to get involved you can get more information by emailing info@kingsbridgedementia.co.uk, or telephoning Rebecca on 01548 288008.
