FAMILY Give the gift of art
Richard Butterfield was born and raised in Barnsley and developed a passion for art during his studies at Barnsley College of Art.
As a young man, he fled
the nest to study illustration at Falmouth University but was drawn back to his South Yorkshire roots.
In his early career, Richard was
an in-house illustrator for Hallmark cards and worked on a huge array of licensed lines from the likes of Walt Disney to the beloved Forever Friends. For over 20 years Richard has
been a freelance illustrator and has completed work for the World Wildlife Fund, Penguin Books and the National Coal Mining Museum. However, what he gets the most satisfaction from is the
emotions evoked by the individuals who commission him to produce private pieces. He offers a personal service and is happy to visit customers in their own home to discuss their individual requirements. Richard has captured loved
ones and faithful friends from the past and present. His work is very much a labour of love, with each portrait taking between 20 to 60 hours to complete. Although, the
Richard at work
time he dedicates to each piece isn’t reflected in the prices which start from £150. A bespoke piece of art is
one-of-a-kind, something that people can enjoy for years to come. Not only does it last a lifetime, but it’s filled with sentiment that few other objects can rival. If you are looking for a special
birthday, wedding, Christmas or anniversary gift, what could be more original, thoughtful and fulfilling.
