After travelling around the world playing the blues, ‘Girl from the North’ Lauren Housley is bringing her country sound back to her hometown of Rotherham this April with a second full-band performance at Rotherham Civic Theatre.
Back in 2015, Lauren and her long-time writing partner and established musician, Thomas Dibb, celebrated the eagerly-awaited release of their debut album, Sweet Surrender, with a memorable foot stomping concert to a sold-out hometown audience.
The musical duo first met in 2005 due to a shared love of Queen and Freddie Mercury while

studying at Thomas Rotherham College and went on to write and play music together. Soulful and emotionally connected, the young band have an on-stage chemistry that’s hard to come by these days. Following their show at Rotherham Civic Theatre, the pair went on to play to audiences in the US, Canada and Europe, were championed by BBC Radio 2 and even shared the stage with Van Morrison after being asked to headline Bluesfest at London’s O2 Arena last year. But now they are back to where it all began with a new sound and a new collection of songs. “We wanted to live our lives travelling the world, playing and writing music and we are so grateful that we get to do that but there’s nothing like playing in your hometown to people who have followed you since the start,” Lauren says.
They will be joined by their band featuring some of the most accomplished musicians in the UK, including pedal-steel player,
Chris Hillman, who recently won the Americana UK ‘Instrumentalist of the Year’ award for the second time.
Lauren and the band play Rotherham Civic Theatre on Saturday 20th April. Tickets are priced at £15 and are available via the Rotherham Theatres website
