Superjam Tea Parties

What could be a better reason for an outing than tea, scones, live entertainment and lots of company? Aimed at people who are elderly, lonely or socially isolated, Superjam tea parties are designed to bring people together for an afternoon of music, companionship and tasty treats. The events are also dementia- friendly and carers and families are welcome to join in.
Established in Barnsley about five years ago, the tea parties have proved to be a lifeline for many people and now attract increasing numbers of toe-tapping guests - with a massive 250 people turning out on one occasion.
The events are supported by Stainborough, Rockley and Barnsley Rotary Clubs and sponsored by Holiday Inn Barnsley, Fraser Doherty MBE, founder of Superjam and Wayne and Rebecca Padgett of Haywood & Padgett who supply the delicious scones.
Hop it
in support of Bluebell Wood
When: Saturday 20th April, 11am to 3.30pm Where: Alhambra Shopping Centre, Barnsley Entry: Entrants pay £3 for a pair of bunny ears and can follow a trail of clues displayed on shop windows to win an Easter treat.
Local youngsters are being asked to turn out in bunny guise, to raise funds for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice Bluebell Wood’s Bunny Hop is in its first year and children from across four counties will take part. The Easter event will include a treasure hunt and free face-paint - or trendy glitter tattoo.

Gifts & Grub Farmer’s Market and Craft Fair

Tour De Yorkshire - Barnsley Departure
When: Friday 3rd May Where: Huddersfield Road, Barnsley
The spotlight is on Barnsley this year as they host ‘The World Stage’. The world’s top female riders join the action in Barnsley, commencing their stage 1 start in the morning. The men will follow in the afternoon, for their stage 2 start.
In the heart of the town there will be a stages with live performers including a new york brass band, street performers and freestyle bike riders.
Large crowds are expected and a sea of blue at the two prominent host villages, Mapplewell and Royston. The race will then head towards Pontefract for the first intermediate sprint.

Brinsworth Celebrate History Day

Take a trip down memory lane and see the changing face of Brinsworth and Catcliffe captured in photographs and memorabilia through the decades. Age UK Rotherham Charity Golf Day
When: Friday 24th May, from 11.30am Where: Rotherham Golf Club, Doncaster Road
If your handicap is above par and you know your birdie from your albatross (or even your double eagle) then you might just want to swing into action to support older people and enjoy a day on the fairway. Beginning like all good days should with a bacon buttie at 11.30am, individuals and teams are invited to tee off at 12.30pm with a shotgun start and work their way round the scenic course. Entry prices are £50 per person or £200 per team and include a breakfast roll, 18 holes of golf and a delicious two-course dinner. Organisers say sponsorship will be key to the event’s success and more details about the fundraiser, sponsorship packages and booking is available from Age UK Rotherham on 01709 786 952.
