Runway highlights
With Chris Moody of Moodyhair
The three most influential fashion weeks of the year, New York, London and Milan, have just now come to an end and we’ve seen an Aladdin’s cave of beautiful hair trends emerging.
Some of the more eclectic trends have been mirrored on social media as the thirst for individuality creates even more unique looks. And they can be pretty simple to recreate at hom.
GLASS HAIR:
A trend that emerged late last year and is still gaining momentum is glass hair.
Made popular by a multitude
of celebrities and social media influencers, glass hair is the term given to hair that is cut blunt and sharp, then finished smooth for maximum gloss and shine. In my opinion, although it looks stunning, it’s not for everyone. Talk to your stylist about suitability, listen to their advice on your face shape and bone structure as this type of look can be quite unforgiving. Ideally the hair needs to be straight and super sleeking it this way will make thin finer hair look even thinner. The first step for this look is a strong, blunt and classic cut, one length or very long layers. Then we need to focus on conditioning, using anti frizz or smoothing products such as Andrew Barton Smooth That Frizz shampoo (£5.00 ASDA), Lee Stafford’s Cactus Crush Thirst Quencher (£8 Boots) or Redken’s All Soft Mega (Salons £13).
There are also some amazing professional smoothing treatments out there that will create a super smooth finish on most hair types. Alfa Parf Lisse Smoothing Treatment is a keratin based smoother that is available in salon, lasts about three months and costs upwards of £90. Redken’s Heat Cure treatment is a 15 minute heat-based smoother that will last four to six weeks costing between £10-£15.
The real polish to the glass-like look comes from the final finish products that are applied. Use a very light oil to add super gloss and tame down fly-aways. Argan Oil based products offer great condition and nourishment to the hair, whereas silicone based products offer maximum shine and heat protection. Lee Stafford’s Poker Straight Serum is a big seller and Redken’s Diamond Oil Glow Dry combines both Argan and silicone oils.
ACCESSORIES: Chanel, Ashley Williams and Simone Rocha were among many showing statement hair clips and head bands. This is a perfect accessory for almost anyone, whatever your style. Investing in bold beautiful clips that can slide into the sides of hair is an easy way to glamourise a look. Half buns, dishevelled ponytails and gentle kiss curls were still visible, and again these were heavily accessorized with bold and bright head bands and alice bands. So, head out on the high street and stock up on these easy to use and affordable hair additions, just remember to go sparkly, pearly and bright!
So, be sure to top up your collection of hair accessories and step into spring with your hair runway ready.
