Review COMICOFFEE
Every man, woman and child who grew up with their nose deep in a comic will love ComiCoffee, on Pyle Street, Newport — but if you didn’t, now is the perfect time to start
Banoffee House Special Waffle
Owner, Matt Sprooles T
he quirky new dining establishment will give you all the nostalgic feels as you step inside the door. It’s a place to delve into the
comics scattered around the rustic reclaimed wood furniture, tuck into an indulgent menu and share a passion with friends or family. The venue is packed with character, as well as a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Choose from a private booth to dine in, open communal window seating, a snug chesterfield sofa, or enjoy the outside courtyard area.
Owner, Matt Sprooles dreamt up the idea for the business while sharing a special tradition with his son. A lover of comic books and all things pop culture, Matt would pick up comics for him and his son, Jacob, to enjoy together over lunch, but discovered there was nowhere around that incorporated both. Matt had worked in hospitality since he was 14 and has previously run a variety of hospitality

venues on the Isle of Wight, in London and in Sydney, as well as teaching hospitality at the IW College.
ComiCoffee now provides the perfect spot to tuck yourself in for the afternoon and share a story over hot drinks, themed milkshakes, smoothies, bubble waffles and paninis. The menu includes a range of sweet and savoury foods, which are available as both gluten and dairy free. Milkshakes are cleverly themed around comic book favourites and hot drinks are made with Island Roasted Coffee and Brew Tea Co.
The Style of Wight team tucked in to The Banner Milkshake, a delicious blend of mint choc chip ice cream, milk and crumbled mint aero — before sampling some seriously fruity smoothies. If you’re stopping for food, we’d recommend the Banoffee House Special Waffle — although ComiCoffee tell us The American Brekkie Waffle, made with bacon and lashings of
The Banner Milkshake
maple syrup, has been a big hit with customers.
ComiCoffee has teamed up with The Fantastic Store, in Ryde, to sell film and comic merchandise from within the coffee shop too.
The relaxed, friendly atmosphere at ComiCoffee would also make the perfect spot to sit and get on with work, or school revision, with USB plugs to charge devices in every booth, as well as superfast wifi and late opening hours. The coffee shop is open Monday to Saturday from 8am until 7pm.
Takeaway orders are available too, with fully compostable, disposable containers made from plant-based ingredients — and no plastic.
