he contemporary building and modern styling of The Palms, in Whiteley Bank is a far cry from the thirteenth century manor house that
Bill and Carol Bardo moved from. But they were keen for a change and excited about the concept of dressing the house with all new fixtures and fittings.
Their previous property, near Windsor, had seven holiday cottages, thirty-two acres, and stables with 30 horses. Carol had a career competing show horses, securing an impressive five Horse of the Year Show supreme champions, while Bill, who is a quantum physicist, worked as Technical Director for The Marconi Company and latterly as a visiting professor for universities.
The couple had viewed a few properties around the New Forest area, before heading over to the Island on a wet day to view The Palms. Both
Carol and Bill had visited the Island as children, as well as enjoying several weekends at the Dec Schneider air race — and with The Needles being where Marconi sent the very first wireless transmission, it seemed a great fit.
After just twenty minutes of viewing the property, the couple knew it was the perfect home for them. So much so in fact, that before they had managed to drive out of the gates, they’d decided to secure a purchase.
“The purchase was incredibly straight forward,” said Carol. “Lisa Abbott and the team at Hose Rhodes Dickson were great. It all fell into place and we were able to move very quickly. We’ve since met with the previous owners a few times for dinner, which has been lovely.”
The Palms provides the perfect accommodation for the Bardo’s and their two dogs, Buddy and Georgie,
