A level HISTORY Overview
This qualification is designed to foster the development of critical and reflective thinking with an understanding of historical topics and issues; and to encourage an awareness of the importance of historical awareness in explaining contemporary issues. OCR History A provides a fantastic curriculum to ignite and engage students’ passions and interests. The course content creates independent learners, critical thinkers and decision-makers – all personal assets that can make them stand out as they progress to Higher Education and/or the workplace.

Course outline 25% British Period Study (Britain 1930-1997). 15% Non-British Period History (The American Revolution 1740-1796).
40% Thematic study (from Colonialism to Independence: The British Empire 1857–1965). 20% Topic Based Essay on the Abolition of Slavery.
Complementary subjects Geography, Psychology, Philosophy, Sociology, English Literature and English Language.
