A level FRENCH Overview


Students will learn to discuss, in French, issues relevant to young people (eg cinema, music, relationships and social issues) and be able to write and speak in French, logically and with conviction. Students learn about French culture and way of life. Students also further develop the skills of translating from and into French and have the opportunity to study a French or francophone novel and film and to research in depth an area of interest for the speaking exam.

In year 1, students will study the following themes: Ÿ Aspects of French-speaking society Ÿ Artistic culture in the French-speaking world Ÿ Grammar


In year 2, students will study: Ÿ Aspects of French speaking society Ÿ Aspects of political life in the French-speaking society Ÿ One text Ÿ Grammar Ÿ Individual research project for speaking assessment


Complementary subjects History, Business Studies, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths, English Literature and English Language.
