A level GEOLOGY Overview

Geology is the study of the Earth, it’s history and how we utilise its natural resources. We study how the planet was shaped by nature and how humans have subsequently shaped the planet. Geology investigates theories such evolution and plate tectonics. We use modern principals to interpret the past and, importantly, plan for the future!

Course outline

Over the course, students study a wide range of engaging topics inducing mass extinctions, past life and evolution, geohazards and the formation and dynamic Earth. In this new specification students delve into how we can use processes we see on Earth to explain the formation and history of the other planets in the solar system.

The subject relies on specimens and observational evidence to undertake scientific inquiries; students undertake a variety of field visits, which have included world-class locations such as Vesuvius in Italy and Iceland as well as local visits to quarry blasts and the coast.

Complementary subjects Geography, Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Business Studies.
