The theme was “All God’s Creation is Very Good!” and was put together by the women of Suriname. It focused on what humanity can do to preserve a living, healthy and safe environment for future generations. This mustmatter to all of us and should be one of the key elements of the Christian faith – God and creation, and God and humanity.
Suriname is a small country on the north-eastern coast of South America. It boasts wonderful forests and mountains and has great rivers with impressive rapids. It is a country rich with flowers and animals and provides enough food for all. In the service the women of Suriname urged us to cherish God’s wonderful gift of Creation and to commit ourselves to caring for our Planet in a responsible and sustainable way.
After the service it was thought a good idea to repeat it one Sunday morning at other churches in the Benefice and Hoveton St. John will certainly be following up on this idea but in the meantime grateful thanks must go to Francis Harmer who travelled on some very snowy and icy roads to open up the church and put on the heating – much needed, and to Sue Gibbons, who braved the journey from Coltishall.
The preparation day, which usually takes place in November the year before, is an awesome way of learning about other countries and their communities. If anyone would like to participate in the service next year (Slovenia is the theme) then please contact Sue Cobb on 783387 or Sue Gibbons on 738893.
