WROXHAM WI The speaker at the March meeting of Wroxham WI came like a breath of spring air. Young, vibrant and full of contagious enthusiasm for her subject “1000 Years of Fashion”, Kindra Jones, historian, author and adventurer, not only talked but also modelled fashion trends. Members learnt about the staple item of underwear, the smock, and the ever changing design of over garments. Certainly a speaker who warrants a return visit. Five members from Wroxham WI attended Norfolk Federation Annual Meeting at St. Andre’s Hall. Business had to be attended to but guest speakers included Davina Tanner who described her work with Britannia Enterprises which is having outstanding results providing work and opportunities for prisoners approaching their release date. Tim Bentinck, better known as BBC’s David Archer, kept members amused for an hour. The high spot for Wroxham WI was the announcement that current member and former president, Margaret Collingwood, had been elected as Chairman of the Board of Trustees i.e. she will head the Norfolk Federation at a very important time for Norfolk as the Centenary Year is approaching. The next meeting at Wroxham is on Wednesday 16th May when members will meet for lunch at 1.00 pm and then discuss and vote on the proposed resolution to go to the National Annual Meeting in June - Mental Health Matters. If you would like to know more about Wroxham WI or the WI movement please contact Jean on 01603 782875.

HOVETON & DISTRICT WI

At our April meeting we heard how one of our local coach companies was set up and expanded over the years. It was interesting to see how coach design has changed since the fifties & sixties, and I for one was staggered to hear that a new coach these days costs as much as a house!!

This month we have our resolution meeting when we discuss the resolution to go forward to the National Annual Meeting later this year. The WI has always been active in lobbying the government on issues affecting women and this year the focus is on mental health.

For our June meeting we look forward to hearing about the work of SERV and the ‘Norfolk blood Bikes.’

Our monthly activities are now in full swing and visitors and new members are always welcome. If you would like to come and see us, we meet in Hoveton Village Hall on the first Wednesday of each month at 2pm and meetings always end with a natter and a cuppa! Why not pop in or ring Sue on 01603 783387 if you would like more details.
