The village demographic is changing bringing planning more into focus as homes are being refurbished and with a potential of 470 homes which could be built across three locations in the Parish. We are confident this number will not be approved and we have entered the consultation process on the Greater Norwich Local Plan. However the Wherry Gardens adoption, the increased number of planning applications and future new developments could see us creating a planning committee to allow public debate on certain planning issues. We have a councillor dedicated to Highway issues, Tony Adams and liaison with Wherry Gardens, Patrick Hadingham. We have a strong communications and media presence believing it is essential to broadcast the council’s activities and intentions. We had a Christmas tree in place for December and the New Year. This year’s tree has already been donated and we would so much like to hold a carol service around it in early December, if you can help with this please let the clerk know. And we have the daffodils out on the green spaces along and near to Norwich Road organised and planted by Moira Holden and her helpers, some from the Women’s Institute. It has really brightened up the road. To sum up, I feel we have achieved a great deal this year and have more improvement for our village in the pipeline. We have just one councillor vacancy on our council and we would love to hear from anyone who wishes to come forward and assist us in our work.”
In the public speaking part of the annual meeting two residents raised concerns over the state of the footpaths in parts of Charles Close. They were told that the footpaths are the responsibility of Norfolk County Council’s Highways Department with whom Wroxham Parish Council is in regular dialogue on the subject. Some work has already been done but the remainder is unlikely to be achieved until the second half of next year due to budget restrains at NCC. It was observed that yet again our County Councillor Tom Garrod had failed to attend our annual meeting to hear the criticisms of NCC and to give his support to Charles Close residents despite emails and phone calls to his office. At the regular meeting of the Parish Council, which followed the annual meeting, the absence of our County Councillor Tom Garrod was observed with regret. It was noted he had failed to attend our last two annual meetings - in contrast to our busy Member of Parliament Keith Simpson who had found time to be with us on both occasions. The Parish Council recorded its disappointment at Cllr Garrod’s non attendance and resolved to formally write to him expressing our concerns.
