NEWS FROM WROXHAM PARISH COUNCIL
Wroxham Parish Council was praised for its efficiency and hard work over the past twelve months by our Member of Parliament, the Rt Hon Keith Simpson, and also by our District Councillor Vincent Tapp at the annual parish meeting. Parish Council Chair Barry Fiske outlined the work done by the Parish Council over the past year.
“We embarked on the year with some ambitious plans, some have been achieved others now form part of our ongoing action plans. We adopted a rigorous approach to our financial management, administration and governance. Updating our policies and procedures and focusing on essential best practices for operating a council of this size. We have cleaned up areas of the village requiring attention such as Caen Meadow, the Cemetery, The Agnes Gardner Play Area and Keys Hill Wood where we have an ongoing restoration programme planned. Trees throughout the village are being examined to determine the work required to ensure they remain a much admired feature of the village. Cllr Peter Mantle has done great work in improving our council owned sites. The improvements he has instituted in the parish cemetery in Nobel Crescent have been clear for all to see. We are gathering data in respect of traffic movements on Norwich Road. There were as staggering 5.5million vehicles last year passing over Wroxham Bridge with almost a third exceeding the 30 m.p.h. limit. This information is being shared with the police and we are attempting to put together a joint Speed Watch Team with Hoveton Parish Council. Two more volunteers are required, so if you can spare a few hours a month please get touch. We are in consultation with Norfolk County Council in respect of fixing a 50mph or lower limit on the length of Salhouse Road and the repositioning of the 30mph boundary further south along Salhouse Road. We have embarked on our plan to adopt a Neighbourhood Plan under the leadership of Susan Everett and the guidance of our consultant and our lead councillor for the Neighbourhood Plan, Malcolm Allsop. We hold regular surgeries in the Library organised by Cllr Kim Claxton, we meet with Hoveton Parish Council on joint strategies. We liaise with the Bittern Line, Greater Anglia and Network rail in pursuit of improved station access and train frequencies. There are substantial improvements promised in the not too distant future. We have erected new signage throughout the village, not all complete yet but we are progressing. The adoption process for Wherry Gardens is underway. Ancient and new footpaths, river access and new green spaces are being reviewed. We meet regularly with Trafford Estates which owns much of the land that surrounds the village. Their support is greatly appreciated.
