Hoveton Parish Council recently took over responsibility for grass cutting in the village, ensuring that all highway verges included in the schedule are regularly cut and maintained. However, when grass verges are damaged and rutted to such an extent that the grass cannot be cut, there is little the Parish Council can do to keep these verges looking nice. The Council has discussed different options that might prevent damage to grass verges (installing wooden posts, planting trees, requesting double yellow lines), but none of these solutions are believed suitable for the areas worst affected, or would be viable solutions based on the number of verges affected.
The Council has been advised that it is not illegal for drivers to use grass verges, meaning enforcement action cannot be taken against anyone causing damage to the verges. However, the Council would like to remind local residents that grass cutting is a public service and, as such, it is public money that will end up being wasted if the grass cannot be cut, while it is the appearance of our parish that will suffer. Therefore, please try to avoid parking or driving on grass verges wherever possible. With just a little bit of consideration and co-operation, we can all enjoy a clean and tidy village.
New School Car Park Mr Aron Whiles, Headteacher at Broadland High School, has contacted Hoveton Parish Council to confirm that funding from Norfolk County Council has now been agreed for an increase in parking capacity at the school. The Council has been informed that a planning application for the additional parking was due to be submitted at the end of March, with a plan for the works to be undertaken in July and August, with a completion date of early September. The Parish Council is pleased to hear Broadland High School is now in a position to move forward with this work, which will hopefully help to address the on-road parking situation on Tunstead Road and solve the ongoing congestion problems this situation has caused.
Norfolk Access Improvement Plan Norfolk County Council is currently seeking views on the draft Norfolk Access Improvement Plan. This ten-year plan sets out priorities for improving Norfolk’s countryside access network (Public Rights of Way), with aims such as: managing the countryside access network so that it is better able to meet demands placed upon it; increasing public, economic, and environmental benefits associated with paths; and increasing investment in the countryside access network. To access the draft plan and make comments, visit
www.norfolk.gov.uk/naip. The consultation runs until 15th June.
