WROXHAM BURE VALLEY ROTARY CLUB Rotary in the United kingdom recently held its annual conference in Torquay where the topic was one that is key to a number of charitable organizations at the moment: How to best organise and modernise to remain relevant and attract new members in the future. Attended by our own president and vice president many new ideas were discussed, and over the next few months we will start to see some of these being put into practice as these are translated down to club level. With our basic tenant of raising money for worthy causes at home and overseas unchanged, the future is looking exciting. As previously reported, our schools Technology Tournament took place at Broadland High School on the 16th

March and we had teams from 5 local schools taking part. Norman Lamb

came to say hello to all the students, and it was another great day for everyone involved. The team from Cromer Academy won the basic level competition, while teams from Stalham High School won both the Intermediate and Advanced level competitions. May is a particularly busy month for us and includes our activity days for pupils from Mile Cross school in Norwich when we take them sailing on Wroxham broad, on a farm visit and organise activities at Barton Turf. On 5th

we have a new look Gazebo and will also be running a bottle stall there. We are again running our popular jazz boat event on Sunday May 20th

May we will be attending the Horning Boat Show, , for which tickets are now available at £16

per head (contact 01603 782735 or 01603 782920). The trip last 3 hours from 5.30pm and nothing can beat a gentle trip down the river on a summer’s evening to the sound of a jazz band accompanied by a lively and sociable group of people! Last but not least on 3rd

June

courtesy of Howe Hill, we are running an Open Day at Howe Hill Gardens, when the gardens should be really spectacular, with barbecue and cake stall in aid of rotary charities. We are always pleased to welcome more new members into the club - you can pop along and meet us any Monday evening if you fancy finding out a bit more about us and what we get up to, but please contact our secretary Anne Kittle in advance on 07887523071 to check the meeting details and so we can ensure we have food for you. Visit our web-site on www.wroxhamrotary.org.uk for more information and details of our exciting programme for 2018, or our Facebook page on www.facebook.com/wroxhamburevalleyrotaryclub or contact our president, Joyce Plant on 01692 630152. There is no better way to give something back to the local community...and no better time than now.

THE PROBUS CLUB OF BROADLANDS is a fellowship club for men who are retired or semi-retired. We meet on the last Wednesday of every month between 12.15 and 15.00 at The Norfolk Mead Hotel, Coltishall for drinks, a delicious chef cooked lunch and a guest speaker presentation on a variety of local and general interest subjects. We are always keen to welcome new members or hear from those who would like to know more. We look forward to meeting and greeting you at one of our future meetings. Contact Steve Robb on 01603 736597(President 2017/18) or Neil Searle-Jones on 01603 666159 (club secretary)
