A-Plant: The plant hire company is so dedicated to developing their workforce that in 2017 their staff attended 15,000-plus training days. Through the company’s dedicated training department, staff embark on progression routes and has led to some progressing to director level. Apprenticeships are key to the business and their investment in the initiative is now over £2 million. A- Plant also has a retention rate higher that the industry average.
Amey plc: The public services giant has a “Grow with Amey” philosophy and recognises that everything they do across the business is achieved by their employees. About 360 of their workforce are directly involved with the Birmingham Highways service and in the first seven years of the partnership with Birmingham City Council the contract provided opportunities for 39 apprentices, 10 graduates and four “Year in Industry” students.
Common Purpose: The leadership and training not-for-profit organisation is dedicated to people development with formal programmes and the support of hundreds of people with informal development opportunities, like board positions and mentoring. They believe in helping people to become better leaders and give them an on-going network and opportunities to keep developing. The organisation employs two people in Birmingham and 30-35 in the UK.

Curium Solutions Limited: The change consultancy works on empowering personal and business potential. Every member of the Curium team is certified in TetraMap, a behavioural framework which enables them to coach and develop people regardless of the type of change and project activity they are involved with. SOTI: The privately-owned specialist in mobility management is currently helping more than 17,000 customers manage around 20,000,000 devices in industries ranging from retail and manufacturing to government and healthcare. Recognising that people are at the heart of their business, SOTI has a variety of programmes that allow for recognition, including a global peer-to-peer programme called SOTI You Rock.
Sport Birmingham: The charity delivers leadership, investment and support to community organisations which deliver sport and physical activity particularly to the most disadvantaged and under- represented in society. A project called “The Birmingham Way” now underpins all of their work and the model is designed to help people find on-the-job experience through developing life skills that sport and activity can nurture.

Liquid: The public relations and communications company was launched by Lis Lewis-Jones from her mother’s garage in 2004. Growth has been strong in the food division, resulting in a highly successful campaign promoting maple syrup for a Canadian company.
Selfridges Birmingham: Last year was the store’s most successful with the largest sales and profit since opening. This year the store is predicted to beat this growth again despite the ever-challenging high street, an expanding city centre and increasing competition. International customer growth continues, with visitors from China increasing 60 per cent. The store has a creative marketing calendar with a large number of live events in-store.
The Belfry Hotel & Resort: The UK’s No 1 destination for corporate, leisure and golf customers underwent a £26million refurbishment at the end of 2014 and there has been a period over the past three years. This was largely due to the restructure of the marketing and sales teams which now operate an effective on-line and social media presence, press coverage and brand loyalty plus high standards of response to guests’ calls and inquiries.
