International Trade

Business Hub Building ties with Turkey

Officials from the Department of International Trade and the British Chamber of Commerce in Turkey visited Birmingham, to discuss investment and expansion opportunities for West Midlands businesses in Turkey. The event was part of the ‘Invest in Turkey

Roadshow’, that aims to provide businesses with information and advice on the outward direct investment opportunities in the fast growing economy. The country has been experiencing strong economic growth, and in the last quarter of 2017 its GDP grew by 11.1 per cent year-on-year. The event builds on the back of other major

trade trips to Turkey, including the recent Chamber-led delegations to the Bursa Industrial Summit in December 2017 and a further visit in September, when the Chamber party met with local businesses wanting to establish trade links with small to medium enterprises in the UK. The two delegations took manufacturing firms

such as BSA Technologies and Hi–line Industries, as well as Birmingham City University. The Chamber has also been strengthening ties with Bursa TSO, Bursa’s Chamber of Commerce. Russell Jeans, chief operating officer at GBCC,

Businesses strive to recruit applicants who can demonstrate good leadership and possess skills in organisation, communication, problemsolving, teamwork, as well as demonstrating a strong work ethic. Did you know that service leavers and

Reservists have these key personal attributes, and more? Members of the Armed Forces are also

trained in a variety of diverse trades including engineers, electricians, drivers, chefs, HR specialists, communications operatives, and medics, which can help add value to your workforce. West Midland Reserve Forces and Cadets

Association build and maintain relationships with employers in the region by creating strategic partnerships, by promoting the skills that service leavers and Reservists can bring to your business. Employers are encouraged to cement this

partnership via the Armed Forces Covenant: a voluntary pledge which builds a twoway relationship between business and defence.

said: “GBCC is continuing to grow an excellent relationship with Bursa and the wider Turkey region, building on the back of our successful trade missions in 2017. “We were very proud to host the latest event

here at Chamber House today. In this way, we will continue to build important bi-lateral trade relationships between Turkey and the Greater Birmingham region.”

Midlands Engine plans market visit to Japan

A trade visit to Japan is hoping to inspire West Midlands businesses to trade and invest in the world’s third largest economy. The trade visit, organised by Midlands Engine

and the Department for International Trade, will highlight the trade opportunities that exist for advanced engineering, automotive and motorsport businesses in the Midlands. The West Midlands trade trip, taking place

between 3-6 June, will help educate businesses about the opportunities available in this buoyant economy. Delegates will have a number of tailored individual meetings with Japanese businesses, attend a networking evening at the British Embassy in Tokyo and be supported by experienced trade advisers. Richard Smith, international trade adviser, said:

“If a company is interested in the Japanese market then this visit is ideal for them. I would encourage companies to approach us, since the programme can be tailored to individual requirements.”
