artefact to be moved into the Hangar was the Valiant nose on 31st March, where it was positioned in the north east corner before the construction of the frame for the mezzanine.

Plans are going well for the grand re-opening of the Finishing Straight on 17th June at the Double Twelve Motorsport Festival, with some

very special Brooklands cars, including several Delages, confirmed as attending. This will be preceded by a Gala Fundraising Dinner on the evening of 16th June, details of which appear elsewhere in this Bulletin. The Aircraft Factory in the restored Wellington Hangar and the Flight Shed will open later this summer.

Valerie Mills Update

The Motoring Volunteers team working on the Morris Eight (John Phillips).

Morris Eight It was agreed with the Museum that we would remove the Morris Eight from the RAC exhibit at the back of the ERA Shed and return her to running condition. There was the possibility of a damaged axle and welding required, so we expected a challenge!

The car was lowered from the axle stands and we encountered our first problem. One of the rear tyres would not hold air. After the use of a number of jacks, a trolley and finally the site tractor we managed to get the Morris back to the Dunlop Mac’s workshop. A thorough inspection found it to be in remarkable condition with the radiator still full and no leaks in the hoses. There were issues with compression and the brakes and the electrics needed attention, along with the flat tyre.

Lists were made and parts sourced in prepara- tion for the restoration work. We started and ran her successfully in mid-February, even though the initial run shot a good amount of water out of the exhaust pipe!

Salmson

This car has been little used since the engine was rebuilt over 12 months ago, so when she was sent for her MoT test in February she passed without any advisories.

Railton Terraplane Being pretty reliable, little work is carried out on this car although the eight spark plugs were replaced in December with quality parts and all eight cylinders now fire correctly. The engine oil was changed and gearbox and back axle oils checked prior to the Terraplane taking part in the London Classic Car Show parade in February.

Lander Bentley It was observed during the last MoT test that when the steering wheel was rotated left and right the beam axle was also moving. After removing the split-pins locking the castellated nuts on the U-bolts, which secure the beam axle to each leaf spring, the nuts could be tightened by about two turns. New split-pins were inserted into each nut
