BTM DRIVING EVENTS B

rooklands Trust Members’ driving events are proving extremely popular so early book-

ing is recommended. Information is posted on the website and in the e-newsletter as soon as it becomes available so please check regularly if you are interested in booking.

Biplane and Vintage Fly-in and Classic Car Rally, Redhill Airfield – Sunday 23rd July

Due to poor weather this event was cancelled last year but the BTM has arranged for a group of members to attend this time without the rally beforehand. Vintage and historic planes will be arriving and departing from Redhill’s grass air- field. Arrival time is yet to be confirmed but is likely to be mid-morning. The event supports Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance which is based at the airfield. Our allocation is restricted to 40 cars or motorcycles but only selected classics will be displayed close to the runway. The remaining cars will be parked in the public car park. Food and drink is available during the day from the Pilots’ Hub Café, although a Plough- man’s Lunch is included with the entry fee of £35. You will need to bring your own seats and appro- priate clothing, bearing in mind that airfields can be cold even on summer days.

Shere Hill Climb – Sunday 3rd September Once again there will be a ‘Brooklands Paddock’ at this event, hosted by the BTM Outreach team

The Brooklands Motorcycle Team in the paddock at the 2016 Shere Hill Climb (Perry Barwick).

next to their stand. Members whose entries are accepted for the hill climb and who would like to display their car in the Brooklands Paddock should contact me direct by e-mail as soon as possible(angelahume@brooklandsmembers.com) giving your name, car make and registration so we can book sufficient space with the organisers. Please note entries for the Shere Hill Climb must be made in the usual way via the organisers at www.sherehillclimb.co.uk Application for entries remains open until 30th April and then there will be a ballot of entries in May.

Hever Hunt touring assembly – Saturday 30th September This scenic drive will start from the Museum with a break for lunch at Hever Castle and finish with a cream tea at Ghyll Manor (approximately 80 miles). Members do not have to own a classic car and the day is relaxed with no prizes or competi- tions to worry about. Just a gentle drive to a destination in the company of other members.

Highways England – Sunday 26th November This is the third and final visit of the year to Highways England's South Regional headquarters, formerly the Highways Agency. This organisation is responsible for the traffic management of motorways and major trunk roads (see the report of the first visit in this issue). Although this visit is full there is a waiting list so contact me if you wish to join it.

Later in the year it is hoped that a visit can be scheduled to Rolls-Royce in Derby. Details are sketchy at the moment but will be publicised as soon as they are confirmed.

The Gordon Bennett Classic Car Run to Ireland from 2nd to 6th June next year is already proving very popular and is filling up very quickly – please let me know as soon as possible if you are interested. There are waiting lists in case of cancellation for the other events – let me know if you would like to be added to them.

Happy motoring. Angela Hume 25
