In memory of....
Sadly, each issue we do lose some of our members and we’d like to pass the condolences of the Brooklands Trust Members, Chairman and Committee to the families of the following who we have been notified have recently passed away.
John Gillam – from Great Bookham who held membership with his wife Janet for over 21 years.
Andy Starr – from Ockham who had been a member for over five years.
Paul Godley – from Chobham who was a member for 21 years.
Dr Roger Howard – who maintained his membership for the last three years while living in Canada.
Ann Nussey – who was a Club level member with her husband Vaughan Pomeroy, who continues the membership.
John Ford – from Winnersh who had been a Club level member for six years.
Sir Clive Bossom – who served as a Trustee
from 1987 to 1995 helping to shape the early days of the Museum. He was made an Honorary member and remained so until his death on 8th March in his 100th year. Sir Clive served in Europe and the Far East in the Royal East Kent Regiment during World War II. He was MP for Leominster from 1959 to 1974. He was interested in air travel and motoring hence his association with Brooklands. As an MP he was Personal Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Air and also the Ministry of Defence (RAF). Afterwards he became Chairman of the British Motor Sports Council, Vice- Chairman of the British Roads Federation and Vice-President (d’honneur) of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile amongst many other charitable positions. He was a keen motor- ing enthusiast and held the position of Chairman of the Royal Automobile Club during a difficult time and campaigned for better driver training during his time as an MP. He owned a 1902 Beaufort which he regularly drove in the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run.
