details when you enter the Museum. We want to make sure that you are making the most of your membership.

We are pleased that our social media ‘fans’ are

growing and we broke the 1,000 barrier for Facebook followers earlier this year – Twitter and Instagram are also rising but there is still a way to go yet. Our ‘Secret Photo Competition’ winner in 2016, Paul Hitchens, has recently posted some rarely seen images of period Brooklands on his Instagram feed. He is also great at contemporary shots of the Museum so if you are on Instagram, search him out.

Member Mark Jarman helps us out with filming our talks and events and has been producing some short advertisements as well which you will find on our Facebook page. We are working on a Vimeo [video sharing website] Channel where most of these videos will be hosted and it will be linked from the Brooklands Trust Members’ website when ready – look for ‘BTM.TV’ on the drop-down menus at the top. One of the first to appear will be the poignant ‘Remembering Captain Brown’ event along with a brace of jaunty tunes from the Brooklands All Stars recorded at their March session in the Members’ Bar.

You may have seen in our e-mail newsletter the competition to win a family ticket for the Super- car Event at Dunsfold on 24th-25th June which is in aid of the Children’s Trust charity. That has proved very popular so we are now able to offer a further family ticket for readers of the Brooklands Bulletin – look out for the details of how to enter in this magazine.

We were saddened to learn of the death of John Surtees in March. He was the subject of a fantastic event that we held in 2015, so popular that we moved it to take place next door at Mercedes- Benz World. It was sold out and 350 members thoroughly enjoyed the look back at his career on two and four wheels in his own words. That event was hosted by Simon Taylor who has now become a regular host for a special series of ‘Motoring Legend’ events where Simon will be inviting previous subjects of his popular ‘Lunch with…’ series in Motor Sport magazine to our Brooklands stage. We kicked it all off with an interview with Simon himself by another journal- ist friend of the BTM, Steve Cropley. Look out on the website and e-mail newsletter for news of future events.

Thanks to all those who took part in the blind auction for the hire of the Morgan for a day and

45 Tim Morris (left) with John Surtees CBE.

The money raised from the blind auction for the hire of a Morgan will go towards re-instat- ing the Paddock Scoreboard – here it is in 1908 (Brooklands Museum Archives).

congratulations to Tim Rumble who ended up with the winning bid. The money raised will be added to the BTM fund to reinstate the Paddock Scoreboard.
