I was introduced by Steve Clarke to Henry Hope- Frost who told me that he would be interviewing Jacky Ickx, Derek Bell and other celebrities at the London Classic Car Show. Henry had been told of my connection with Jacky – I was his chief mechanic when he drove for the Brabham team in 1969, coming second to Jackie Stewart in the Formula One World Championship. I had not seen Jacky since 1970 or 71 but with Henry’s help I was able to get together with him at the show.


I gave Jacky a couple of photographs taken of us at the 1969 Dutch Grand Prix which he seemed to enjoy. And for me it was a memorable day. You never know how a lunch at Brooklands


A WINTER’STALE T


he winter Classic Breakfast tends to bring out the more resilient classics and although


each breakfast brings along something different, we are also seeing a hardcore of regulars, many of whom are Brooklands Trust Members. There were a couple of new innovations this time – breakfast served in the Blue Bird room and seating using the whole of the Napier Room, which worked well. However, the same could not be said of the move to what seemed like ‘balsa wood’ cutlery downstairs, as tables were soon littered with splintered utensils – CreativEvents has confirmed that this will not be repeated. Out in the Paddock and surrounding areas the vehicles ranged from a lime green Lamborghini by the Race Bays to a Yamaha 50 moped by the BP Pagoda – a particular favourite that led to the famous FS1E beloved of teenagers of a certain

and a chance meeting may end up! Thank you Steve and Henry.’
