Terri added, “If a certain dog requires a fenced in backyard and the interested adopter lives on the fifth floor of a condominium, that’s just not going to work.” She is very thorough with follow- ing up on the dogs who have been adopted - not in a nuisance kind of way, but more a guidance counselor. She is pretty adamant about training. “It’s important for a dog and her fami- ly to receive some training to establish socialization, and good basic obedience,” she said. “It makes for a happy dog and ensures the adoption will stick.” Terri has moments when she wonders why she continues
in rescue - a seemingly never ending job. “When you see these dogs come in emotionally and physically broken. When you are able to assist them to learn how to trust - that’s huge.We are their voice." Corrin adds, “They’re not throw away dogs. They’re little souls.” There are two other important traits one must develop in
order to run a successful rescue group: making time for yourself and maintaining a good sense of humor. Terri enjoys meeting with friends for breakfast or lunch. As for her wicked, self-deprecating sense of humor, which shows up more often than not in conversation, she had this to say recently, while we were talking on the phone, “Right now, I’m looking at my late mother’s hope chest. It’s been in my family since 1930-some- thing. It’s survived all of these years in dog rescue without one scratch. It’s survived 900 fosters. As I look at it now, with anoth- er litter of puppies running around, I notice two corners have been chewed. But, what are you going to do? It’s just a piece of furniture. The dogs will always win my heart.”
