VIP Rescue’s foster volunteers take whatever time is

needed with the dogs and puppies. “I fostered two Standard Poodles, emaciated, left for dead by their previous owners. They needed surgery, but were not strong enough because of their health. They lived with me for six months, until they were healthy enough for surgery,” said Corrin. Fostering is rewarding on so many different levels, Corrin

told us. “If you really want to make a difference in one dog’s life, it's all the reward you need. After 800 dogs, I’ve learned that you have to give them up to save another life. Even if you foster once or twice in your lifetime, just think, you’ve created a success by saving a life, giving a dog a second chance,”she added.

Garland, the other momma Schnauzer.

Corrin maintains that Terri is the one who does the heavy lifting. “Nowadays, I just get to play with these puppies. Terri is the one who has to go in and pull the dogs. She’s the one who must decide which dog lives and which dog dies. There is a lot of vetting that goes on before the dogs are ever adopt- ed.”

Both Terri and Corrin agree. There are no hard rules in

VIP Rescue Florida. “But, we have established general rules. Our number one rule is getting the dogs placed right the first time,” said Terri. She contends that while she is somewhat flexible with potential adopters, she is also realistic. “We know so much about the dogs in our care because

they’ve been in a foster environment. Our fosters have been doing this for a long time, so they’re very experienced.”
