Sundance Pools UK have announced the launch of their own exclusive trade range of pools. The subsidiary brand, Sunquest Pools, has been launched with trade distributors in mind and the company hopes to use their latest business addition to deal with the rising demands for UK-based manufacturing. “The upsurge in customers over last 20 years follows the realisation of the benefi ts of fi breglass pools which include; economical running, swift installation, long warranties, and low maintenance, as well as creating a broader range of specifi cations, colours and sizes,” comments Director Ed West. He adds: “Using Sunquest Pools to focus

solely on trade customers means we can use our previous experience, trade relations and industry knowledge to provide competitively priced one-piece fi breglass pools.” The Sunquest range are available in two sizes. The Sunquest 36 (11m x 4.3m – 1 – 2m sloped) is Sundance’s largest pool and costs £27,340, while the smaller sister pool Sunquest 30 (9m x 4m – 1.5m fl at) is the widest fl at- bottom pool in the range, costing £24,480. Both models are moulded with non-slip

steps, underwater lights, return jets and skimmer and are supplied with the sand fi lter and circulation pump, pool cleaning equipment with test kit and thermometer.

Portishead Lido Hits Headlines

Portishead Open Air Pool is already making headlines following its extensive refurbishments.

The Bristol-based pool made national news when a duck and her nine ducklings were found fl oating in the water after it reopened in April.

Following the £250,000 refurbishment which included new pipework, a new liner, cover and pool surrounds - all led by CP Pools and DG Pools & Leisure – the ducklings further thrust the lido into the public eye. Barbara Thatcher, who runs the pool with

the Portishead Pool Community Trust, admits they were expecting the arrivals, but hadn’t planned to fi nd the new-borns taking their fi rst swimming lessons in the pool. “We eventually shepherded the little group through the fi re escape, down the esplanade and into Portishead Lake which is

much more suitable as a duckling nursery,” she comments.

A team of 12 helped with the daring rescue, with lifeguards, pool staff and local swimmers helping guide the new-borns to safety and highlighting the community spirit in Portishead.

Swim England has launched a new membership which aims to help the nation become better swimmers. The Just Swim scheme is completely free and is aimed at the 11 million adults in England who swim regularly to help them develop and discover new ways to enjoy the water.

SALT BATH

Swimmers in Gillingham are getting a taste of a salt-water pool. The RiversMeet Leisure Centre made the switch from the traditional chlorine method of water treatment to using the saline system in May.

SCHOOL FATE

A Birmingham school pool is to close after failing to raise the £400,000 needed to repair a signifi cant leak. The Fairfax Academy facility opened in 1959 as an outdoor pool, and was subject to a ‘Save the Pool’ campaign in 2014 but struggled to generate funds.

HEALTH WARNING America’s leading health organisation,

the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has warned that cases of cryptosporidium in swimming pools have doubled in last two years. At least 32 outbreaks of the parasite were linked to swimming pool last year compared to 16 outbreaks reported in 2014.
