Modular Construction Toys comes to the UK The new construction brand has been brought to the UK market, distributed exclusively by Desher. Kayleigh Conway reports.

Desher will be targeting all major and independent accounts in the UK. Retail prices for Modular Construction Toys range between £18 and £54, with an approximate 60% mark up for retailers and percentage discounts available for larger orders. Modular Construction Toys is a new range of educational developing

construction toys which allows children aged four years plus to build fully- modular 3D race tracks, highways, castles, railways, cars and characters, while developing abstract thinking, three-dimensional perception and creativity; children can use their imagination to create any number of combinations from the building pieces. A key USP of Modular Construction Toys is its patented connectors; the fl exible plastic connectors glide into the track pieces easily and stay put, removing the need to snap pieces together with lots of pressure and the fi nger pinching it comes with. Modular Construction Toys building parts are fully compatible to encourage collectability, and can be stacked vertically to construct complex bridges, interchanges and more. The Modular Characters are fully interchangeable and characters include a prince, princess, guard, dancer, policeman, fi reman, builder and astronaut. Modular Construction Toys fi rst started in 2008 when the founder, Vitali

Minin, could not fi nd a 3D racetrack construction toy for his son, leading him to design his own. The fi rst prototype of the Modular Racetrack was presented at the Nuremberg Toy Fair, and by 2010 Modular Construction Toys began production and its fi rst products entered the market. Modular Construction Toys now has more than 30 SKUs and is working on new innovative educational concepts, and its products can be found in more than 10 countries worldwide. Modular Construction Toys will be on display at the next Spielwarenmesse

show in Nuremberg 29th January-3rd February 2014. For more information, please contact Reisel Stern at or visit

Virgin Trains approached the wooden toy manufacturer in January after Bigjigs Rail made a bid for the West Coast Main Line. Whilst the Department for Transport declined the bid, Bigjigs Toys and Virgin Trains have been working together to create a wooden Pendolino. Bigjigs Toys has been working with Virgin Trains to create a wooden

version of the famous Virgin Pendolino. The train comes complete with two engines and a carriage, all connected via a magnetic coupling system. The train will also come complete with two pieces of Bigjigs rail track, and is suitable for children aged three years and up. Due for sale in November, the Wooden Pendolino will be available in independent toy shops across the UK. George Poole, marketing and PR coordinator of Bigjigs Toys, commented: “We are delighted to have had the chance to work with Virgin Trains on this exciting project. It’s incredible to think that our bid for the West Coast Main Line has allowed us to create such an iconic train. We are sure there will be many happy rail enthusiasts this Christmas.”
