Editor’s Note

We’re happy to present our April edition of African Sports Monthly for your delight, as always.

The 2011 Cricket World Cup, which began on February 19 in Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka, has three national teams representing Africa: Kenya, Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Despite the difficulties they faced, South Africa did Africa proud with an outstanding performance. Our African Bureau chief Sahr Morris Jr, who covered the tournament, provides details.

Volleyball is not a forgotten discipline in Africa, like some may feel. The sport is making laudable headway in Namibia. Our exclusive interview with the president of the Namibia Volleyball Federation Heiko Diehl reveals some secrets about the progress of volleyball in that country, which many others need to learn from.

Besides the Egyptian, Algerian and Tunisian soccer leagues, South Africa Premier Soccer League is ranked also as one of Africa’s best. Our reporter Nanama Keita tells us why. Two London football clubs Tottenham Hotspurs and West Ham battled for the right to keep and use the 2012 Olympic stadium after the Games, but what helped West Ham to topple Spurs in the bid is revealed here by our reporter Ayodele Odumade. Our Europe’s correspondent Thomas Meinders presents the African football stars of the month as

well as the roundups of the Premier League, the Bundesliga and the European continentals.

And of course, our fashion reporter Alie Bittar presents the African Best Dressed Stars of the Month in a very unique fashion.

These and many more are packed together in an easy-flowing language you’ve always loved us to entertain you with. Enjoy reading and God bless.
