No. 45 Lucas Radebe Country:
South Africa Sport: Soccer
The most stalwart defender to ever come out of South Africa Lucas Radebe who played soccer at an early stage in his life as an escape from his condition, was born and raised in the slums of Soweto in Johannesburg. He started his soccer career playing for the Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa but will later move on to play in the British Premier League with Leeds United where his play on the field would earn him a reputation and a fondness with the fans.
Lucas played for the South African National side in 1992 and would be on the South African side that would eventually be named Bafana Bafana in the 1998 and 2002 FIFA World Cup. He would earn 70 Caps playing for his national side scoring two goals in total, but as a defensive specialist you did not expect him to be a prolific goal scorer but rather one who stopped the other teams of- fense and that he did with almost perfection. Lucas Radebe was voted as one of the Top 100 Great South Africans in 2004.
