The fastest Africa Sprinter in history after Frankie Fre- derick of Namibia, Francis who was asked to try Athlet- ics after a coach noticed his speed is now a Portuguese by choice but is originally from Nigeria. His accomplish- ment is only second to one and that is Frankie Fredericks of Namibia on the African Continent. With his personal times that he has ran in the 100 and 200 me- ters dash Francis Obikwelu is the fastest Nigerian of all time and the second fastest African of all time in the sprints but due to some issues with the authorities in Nigeria Francis decided to switch nationalities in 2001 and currently competes for Portugal but that does not take away his accomplishments as one of Africa’s 50 greatest ever.


Obikwelu hold a personal best of 9.86 sec in the 100 meters which he achieved in 2004 and 19.84sec in the 200 meters which he ran in 1999 as a Nigerian competitor.


He resides and competes for Portugal and still loves his native Nigeria as well as his adopted home of Portugal.


No 47. Amadou Dia Ba Country: Senegal


Sport: Track and Field


The greatest Senegalese hurdler yet, he won the 1988 Olympic silver medal in this event with a per- sonal best time of 47.23sec. A dominant competitor in his day Amadou won quite a number of Gold’s for his native Senegal mostly during the African Championships and the African Games. He competed in three consecutive Olympic Games for his country in 1984, 88 and 92. 10
