The East African forced the reigning champions losing three wickets for just 16 runs to slip to 143-4 but at the end, the final total of 324-6 proved far too big for Kenya to chase down, despite their defi- ant knock of 98 not out by Collins Obuya. The all-rounder saw his side through to 264-6 at the end of their 50 overs, an inspiring effort as they had not managed more than 199 in their four previous de- feats in the tournament.

The final nail to the coffin of Kenya was hit when the faced African rivals Zimbabwe in their final match of group and it was another saddened day for the East African losing to their African brothers. The Zimbabweans made a 161-run demolition of Kenya at Eden Gardens with Tatenda Taibu scor- ing (53), Vusi Sibanda (61) and Craig Ervine (66) each contributed a half-century to a total of 308-6 after Zimbabwe had opted to bat first.
