Cricket World Cup Roundup: South Africa fly continent’s flag

By Sahr Morris Jr. South Africa…making Africa proud

The 2011 Cricket World Cup held in Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka saw three nations, Kenya, Zimbabwe and South Africa represent the African continent but it all started in a rather poor note for these representatives.

In our last edition we previewed the preparations and looked at the chances of the three nations at the events slated to last between February 19 and April 2. Kenya and Zimbabwe could not match the competitiveness of the tournament while South Africa tried to the quarter- finals.

Both Kenya and Zimbabwe were slotted in the same group, and it all started for our East Africa brothers in a bad note as they were embarrassed by New Zealand in their opening match in Chennai losing by 10 wickets.

Kenya The Group A match which was scheduled for 100 over's only lasted less than 32 overs with the

Black Caps dismissing Kenya for 69 and knocked off the runs in just 48 balls.

Kenya were never up to task and could not face the might and power of New Zealand who forced them to nine wick- ets for 29 in the face of some impressive seam bowling.

South Africa Peterson celebrate another wicket against Bangladesh 57
